Abby’s Past
The Lost Episode: “Abby’s Reflection”
The files were labeled “Wellsbury_Outtakes_S02E08_REDACTED.” It wasn’t an episode. When I clicked play there was no music, no cheerful transition, only just someone breathing and a wet sound that seemed to come from my speakers.
The screen flickered, showing Abby’s room and it wasn’t the room I know. The lighting was weird, a yellow that made shadows move on the wallpaper.
Abby was sitting in front of her makeup table, she wasn’t putting on eyeliner and she was holding a shard of glass scraping it against her own reflection.
She wasn’t looking at herself.
She was looking through the glass, “They’re still here Ginny ” she whispered. Her voice sounded strange like it was making my teeth hurt. “They’re still standing in the corners of the house I left behind.”
The camera static, not moving and it started to zoom in on the mirror. The reflection of Abby’s room didn’t match what I saw.
In the reflection the walls had holes like something was trying to get out, there standing right behind her reflection was a figure. It wasn’t someone from the show and it was a weird silhouette with long arms and a smooth face.
Abby turned around to look behind her, there was nothing there and she turned back to the mirror.
The figure was closer its long fingers on her shoulders, she didn’t scream. She just leaned her forehead against the glass, which began to bleed dark ink that covered the room.
“It followed me from the house ” she murmured. “It wants to know why I left.
It wants to know why I’m still pretending to be someone,” the audio stopped, the only sound left was the scratching of the shard against the glass getting louder and more frantic. The camera began to distort the image tearing into strips of static and color.
In those flashes of clear footage I saw the MANG girls, Ginny, Max, Norah however, they weren’t talking or laughing.
They were standing still in the background their eyes replaced by voids their mouths stitched shut with uneven thread and they were staring directly at me.
Then the footage jumped to a shot of Abby standing in the Wellsbury high school hallway, the hallway was really long vanishing into darkness.
As she began to walk, with every step her skin seemed to peel away revealing rows of small mirrors reflecting the same horrific figure standing behind her.
She looked at the camera her expression empty. Spoke directly to me: “Do you think moving away changes the ghosts you carry? You’re just moving them to a location.”
The screen went black and a single line of text appeared: THEY ARE STILL BEHIND YOU.
I sat in the dark for a time after the file closed.
The silence, in my room felt heavier as if the walls were closing in and I haven’t been able to look at a mirror.
Every time I pass one, I catch myself glancing at the corners scared that I might see a shadow or a featureless face waiting behind the glass.
