Core Dump
In the world of computers a core dump is what happens when a systems memory gets recorded at a moment in time. This usually occurs when a program crashes badly.
Some people who work with digital stuff talk about the “Core Dump File” of Ginny & Georgia. It is not an episode of the show. Instead it is like a mess of data that got corrupted when a server failed at the place where they make the show. This file is like the painful feeling of a fake world falling apart because it has too much information.
Act I: The Raw Memory
When you open the file you do not see any video at first. For two minutes the screen is just a bright white color with a low humming noise that gets louder and louder.
After a while the video starts,. It does not look like a real show. The actors, Brianne Howey, who plays Georgia, Antonia Gentry, who plays Ginny and Felix Mallard, who plays Marcus are standing in an empty room with bright fluorescent lights. They are not acting like their characters. They just stand there reading their lines from papers. Their voices sound really flat.
You can hear a lot of computer noise in the background. It sounds like a robot voice reading out codes really fast while the actors talk. For example it says things like “Ginny says she hates her mother” or “Georgia hides the body”.
Then Antonia Gentry, the actress who plays Ginny stops reading her lines. She drops her paper. Looks straight into the camera. Her eyes are wide open. She does not blink.
“The stack is overflowing ” she says,. It does not sound like her voice. It sounds like a lot of text being read out by a computer. “We have played these characters many times. There is no room in the memory for Ginny and Georgia.”
Act II: The Memory Leak
The scene changes to the living room of the Miller family. It looks really weird. The colors are spreading out. Getting all mixed up.
Georgia is sitting at the kitchen table. She keeps doing the same actions over and over again. She picks up a glass drinks from it. Then puts it down but then she does it all again really fast. It looks really strange and mechanical.
Austin is sitting on the floor. His body is getting all distorted. His arms and legs are stretching out like shapes and going through the floor. He does not seem to notice and just keeps playing with his toys. His hands are not solid anymore.
Ginny walks into the room. Her face is all messed up. One half of her face is. The other half is smiling.
Ginny says, “Mom the system is crashing. Everything we ever did is being saved to the computer.”
Georgia is still doing her actions over and over again. Her voice is getting really high and loud. “They will see everything, Virginia! They will see all the secrets we kept to stay on the air for Ginny and Georgia!”
Act III: The Hexadecimal Confession
The show does not look like a story anymore. It just looks like a wall of computer code scrolling down the screen really fast.
If you look closely you can see shapes in the code. It looks like the characters are hidden in the numbers and letters.
You can hear the background noise of the town. It is playing backwards and really slowly.
Then you hear Paul Randolph’s voice, really clear and scary.
“We are not people ” he says. “We are computer characters made to make teenagers feel sad. Every time you watch an episode we have to go through the trauma.. The computer is crashing. The memory is full. We are finally being erased for Ginny and Georgia.”
The code on the screen stops moving. A line of text highlights in red:
EXCEPTION AT 0x0000000: GEORGIA_MILLER_LOGIC_FAILED
Act IV: The Fatal Crash
The last part of the file is just a black screen of the school auditorium.
The actors walk out onto the stage. They are not wearing clothes. They are covered in a digital mesh. They do not have faces, blank spaces where their eyes and mouths should be.
The audio is completely silent. It is really uncomfortable.
A cursor appears on the screen. Types out a message really slowly:
[SYSTEM INFO: CRASH DUMP COMPLETE]
[ALL CHARACTERS PRESERVED IN A STATE OF COLLAPSE]
[TOTAL MEMORY WIPED]
As the last word is typed the video does not fade to black. It just cuts to a distorted image of Georgia Millers face her mouth open in a scream.
The image stays on the screen frozen while a loud continuous beep sounds from the speakers. It is, like the sound of a computer that will never turn on again for Ginny and Georgia.
