Red Moon
In the story of Ginny & Georgia Red Moon is a supernatural teen drama series that Marcus and Ginny watch in his room. It’s like a over-the-top parody of The Vampire Diaries or Twilight.
There’s a legendary unaired episode of Red Moon. It wasn’t an episode of Ginny & Georgia watching Red Moon; it was an episode where the fictional world of Red Moon took over Wellsbury.
This is the summary of that lost episode called “The Eclipse.”
### Act I: The Static Bleed
The episode starts with Ginny Miller sitting on Marcus’s bed. The room is dark lit by the TV screen. On the TV Red Moon is playing,. The audio is messed up. The characters dialogue is slowed down into a low creepy drone.
Marcus is standing by the window staring out into the night.
“Do you ever feel like the sky is the color?” Marcus asks. His voice sounds really flat.
Ginny doesn’t look up from the TV. “It’s the glare from the screen, Marcus.”
“No ” Marcus replies, turning around. His eyes are completely black. “Look at the moon Ginny. It’s not waiting for the show to finish.”
The camera cuts to the TV screen. We’re inside Red Moon. The fictional town of “Crimson Hollow” looks like Wellsbury but without color. The sky is a bruised purple with a huge bleeding red moon that seems to pulse like a heartbeat.
### Act II: The Scripted Ritual
The scene shifts to the Wellsbury High cafeteria, which has been transformed into a set from Red Moon. The students—Norah, Jordan, Hunter and Brodie—are all dressed in heavy velvet clothes. They’re sitting around a table still.
Maxine walks in playing the “Human Heroine” archetype of Red Moon. Her performance is creepy and manic. She’s speaking fast. The words are old and poetic describing violence and blood sacrifices.
Maxine: (Laughing sharply) “And then he tore out his heart, Hunter! It was so romantic. We’re all going to do it tonight behind the bleachers!”
Hunter doesn’t blink. A single dark tear of blood leaks from his eye. Rolls down his cheek. He smiles a empty smile.
Hunter: “The blood is the price of renewal. We have to keep the ratings up.”
The camera pans down to the floor. The linoleum tiles are cracking open and a dark substance is oozing upward. None of the characters acknowledge it. They just keep laughing and chatting about high school drama using vocabulary.
### Act III: Georgia’s Horizon
Meanwhile at the Miller household the atmosphere is suffocating. Georgia is in the kitchen frantically cooking. But she isn’t making dinner; she’s baking pies stacking them up on the counters until they topple over spilling raw red filling everywhere.
Her Southern accent is really loud and cartoonish. She’s talking to Paul, who is sitting at the kitchen island.
“We got to keep up appearances Paul! If they think we’re unhappy they’ll cancel us!” Georgia shrieks, her hands covered in red fruit filling.
Paul isn’t moving. His eyes have been crudely painted over with marker. His jaw moves up and down mechanically as a pre-recorded laugh track echoes through the house.
Austin is sitting under the kitchen table clutching his Zach Tomasi book.. The pages of the comic aren’t drawings—they’re real moving security camera footage of Austin himself. He begins to whisper a chant from Red Moon: “The hunter becomes the prey when the red moon bleeds the day.”
### Act IV: The Third Wall Collapses
The episode climaxes in Marcus’s room. Ginny finally snaps out of her trance and realizes the TV isn’t playing a show anymore—it’s broadcasting a feed of her own room from a high angle.
On the TV screen she watches herself stand up. In life she stands up.
She runs to the window. Looks out. The sky above Wellsbury has turned completely black except for the glowing Red Moon. It’s so close to the earth that she can see the craters. A low humming sound vibrates through the glass.
Marcus steps up behind her. He places a cold hand on her shoulder.
“The writers got bored of the high school drama Ginny ” Marcus whispers. His voice is now creepy and layered with a demonic audio effect. “They wanted a genre shift. We have to be scary.”
Ginny turns around to face him. Marcus’s face begins to glitch, like a corrupted digital video file.
### The Credits
The episode ends on a shot of the Miller house from the outside. The pristine suburban home is bathed in a sickening red light from the sky.
Of credits a single string of white text scrolls across the bottom of the black screen:
[AUDIO ERROR: THE CHARACTERS ARE REQUESTING TO BE TURNED OFF.]
[AUDIO ERROR: PLEASE UNPLUG THE TELEVISION.]
The final sound before the cut to silence is the loud sudden sound of a directors slate snapping shut close, to the microphone followed by Georgia Miller crying out in the dark.
