The lost video game

The attic was really quiet except for the computer monitor I had dragged out of storage. It was making a humming noise.

I had found this disc in a box of junk from a thrift store. The box was labeled *Ginny & Georgia: The Lost Build. 2021 Prototype.*

I am a fan of the show and I thought the game would be a little rough and not very good.

What I got was something that felt like I was looking at a dead body.

### The Opening Screen

The game started up without any company logo. There was no music, a hissing sound that got louder as the title screen came on but the logo was there, the colors were all wrong, the bright colors from the show had turned into a sickly purplish black like Jelly.

The two main characters, Ginny and Georgia were not standing with their backs to each other like they usually do. They were slumped over as their bodies were twitching in a weird way, their eyes were empty black holes that seemed to be watching me as I moved the cursor.

I clicked the “Start” button.

### The Gameplay

The game put me in a realistic version of the house from the show, it was a nightmare as the lighting was all wrong. The shadows were long and it did not match the lamps.

I was controlling Ginny, she moved really stiffly, her footsteps sounded like meat hitting the ground.

I walked into the kitchen and Georgia was standing at the counter chopping vegetables, she did not have a knife and she was hitting her wrist with a old rusty ladle.

*Clang. Clang. Clang.*

I tried to move the camera. It would not budge. It was stuck on Georgia’s face. A box popped up with a high-pitched sound that hurt my ears. Then some words appeared on the screen for a second: **”SHE KNOWS YOU ARE WATCHING.”**

### The Shift

I tried to quit the game but nothing happened and my keyboard was malfunction really bad.

The scene changed fast to the inside of a car. The car was driving itself down a road that I had never seen before and the road was a long gray strip surrounded by burned trees.

The radio was playing a weird slowed-down version of the shows theme song. It sounded like something from the 70s or 80s.

Georgia was in the drivers seat as she turned to look at me. Her face started to fall like her skin was melting off and I could see veins and gears under her skin.

“You like stories don’t you?” she said,. I did not hear her voice from the speakers as I heard it from inside the room like she was talking to me from behind a wall.

“Stories are lies we tell ourselves so we don’t have to see the blood.”

### The Basement

The screen went black for a minute, when it came on.

I was in a basement that looked just like mine and the game had somehow made a map of my house.

Which disturbed me, as I saw a version of my computer setup on the screen.

Ginny was standing in the game-basement looking at a monitor. On that monitor was a version of me sitting in my chair staring at the screen.

Ginny started walking towards me. Her body started to stretch out in weird ways and her jaw opened up wide.

She kept coming towards me and the game started playing a recording of my breathing and it was really slow.

### The

I finally pulled the plug on the computer, the monitor made a noise and went black leaving me in the dark.

I sat there for a time waiting for my eyes to get used to the darkness.

I reached down to feel for the power strip and my hands were shaking badly.

That’s when I felt something, on the floor right where my feet had been was a cold object.

I picked it up and it was a rusty old ladle, covered in a thick wet substance that smelled like iron.

I looked up at the screen of the monitor and I saw a faint reflection. It was not just me. There was a woman standing behind me with her hand, on my shoulder. She was smiling,. It was a really scary smile.

Then I heard a whisper: *”Don’t turn around sugar.”*
